Novi Sad: a first taste of Serbia

Serbia is definitely not the EU. Crossing the border by train from Hungary was a slow and enlightening journey as we passed many dry meilie fields, tiny villages and broken, derelict buildings.

My first stop was the town of Novi Sad, a cultural melting pot that is well known for EXIT music festival in July. As usual my timing is well off, but my few days there were a relaxing first look at Serbia.

Novi Sad boasts a beautiful old city and is lorded over by an impressive fort. And of course, Chuck Norris is everywhere.

I also visited the little town of Stremski Karlovci and had a small walk in the forest of Fruska Gora, a protected mountainous area.
