Desert mayhem

An adventure so surreal, so sublime that words fail to portray the wonders of Afrika Burn. Here is some of the magic I enjoyed.

First time burners – burn virgins – ring this gong upon arriving.

Beautiful Tankwa Karoo. Afrika Burn is a leave no trace event – truly the epitome of the adage “take only memories, leave only footprints”.

The San Clan is the symbol of the burn, and is set on fire in front of a captivated audience of thousands – some of them naked and enthralled in front of the flames.

The best part of the burn are the people you share the experience with. And the dressing up of course!
