Silent as a ghost town

Abandoned and neglected, the villagers long gone, the houses and fields, churches, streets and squares are now just tumbled blocks of stone.

Forced to leave their homes in an agreement to resettle Greek and Turkish citizens within new country borders, the inhabitants of Kaya Köyü could only lock their doors and hope to be back in a month, a year. But they never came back.

With the passing years, wind and rain and dust, treasure seekers and pilferers, the village is now a shell of its former life; a nostalgic reminder of lives once lived above a fertile valley.
